CASE STUDY | Major Roadworks Scheme on A9/A85

Customer | Balfour Beatty
Project | Major Roadworks Scheme on A9/A85

PROJECT

Major junction improvements were being made on A9/A85. The project covered the A9 trunk road from Inveralmond Roundabout to Broxden Roundabout and the A85 from Tulloch Rd to Huntingtower.

We provided full overnight closures of the A9 trunk road. These overnight closures involved various levels of crews, up to 12 men. We also provided contraflow working on the A9, lane closures and temporary traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.

CHALLENGES

Our main challenge for this project was in having the initial drawings approved by BEAR Scotland North East and North West, Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Councils roads department and Transport Scotland all had to be consulted. This was due to the scheme covering various road networks. By getting the designs done quickly and sent to all parties for comment straight away, the drawings could then be updated and agreed upon at an appropriate speed. This allowed the project to meet programme deadlines..

A WORD FROM THE CLIENT

“Contraflow provided a first class service throughout the duration of the project. They provided a full service covering all our traffic management requirements – both in design and consultation processes with our own client and also in the implementation of the traffic management systems.

Operatives were both helpful and courteous when working in public environments and would go the extra mile to ensure the job was presented well. It was obvious that from the top down, there was an ethos of good delivery and quality of product.

Based on Contraflow’s performance on the project, they would be my first choice for the provision of traffic management on large scale roadworks projects.”

PROJECT MANAGER STATEMENT

This was a demanding and high profile job. By involving all parties early and having honest, open dialogue with the client, we built good relationships which allowed the project to run extremely well.
